Rooney’s impact minimal against USA

Steven Gerrard opened the scoring with a well taken goal in the 4th minute of the England v USA match. He was also seen helping the backline with some defensive clearing

However England’s goalkeeping woes continue as Robert Green allow the ball to roll off his hands for what should have been an easy save. The game ended 1 – 1.

Captain Gerrard warns Rooney to control his tongue

Skipper Steven Gerrard sent out a warning to tempestuous Rooney: ”I am not sure whether Wayne is going to be targeted by USA but he is experienced enough to deal with it. Wayne understands we need him on the pitch. He is a fantastic player and he has to make sure he controls his frustration and takes it out on the opposition.”

USA has made their intentions known that they will do what they can get away with in trying to frustrate Rooney. We will see how this plays out on Saturday June 12.

Marking Rooney

Oguchi Onyewu (aka Gooch)  has been given the task of marking England’s feared striker Wyne Rooney in tomorrow’s Group C opener in Rustenburg. “I’ve played against plenty of big, strong strikers before and if they want to start pushing me, that’s not going to be a problem,” said Onyewu.

“I’m up to facing Rooney and I’m up to facing England. Wayne Rooney is not the only world-class player they have. You shouldn’t just focus on one player in a team sport.”

Wayne Rooney topped the poll of journalists with just over 81 per cent of a record number of votes cast, finishing ahead of Chelsea forward Didier Drogba and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez to win the prestigious accolade, which has been running since 1948.

Wayne Rooney is the PFA player of the year

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was voted the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year. In the votes he came out on top ahead of  Didier Drogba, Carlos Tevez and Cesc Fabregas.

Rooney, 24, said: “It’s a great feeling to win because it’s voted for by the players. It’s a great honour and I’m really proud.”

Rooney scored in win over Liverpool

Wayne Rooney’s penalty kicks was saved by Reina but he got the rebound from which he scored against Liverpool. Rooney and Park Ji Sung ensured Man Utd claim all 3 points after Torres gave Liverpool the lead in the 5th minute. Manchester United won at Old Trafford 2-1.

This win ends Liverpool’s 3-game win streak over their bitter rival. United’s Nemanja Vidic completed the game without a red card, having been dismissed in each of the three previous encounters against Liverpool.

Rooney puts 2 past Fulham

Rooney scored two goals during a 3 – 0 thrashing of Fulham at Old Trafford. He has now scored 25 goals in the Premier League and 32 in all competition and closes in on Ronaldo’s feat of 42 goals last season.

Wayne Rooney scored another header against AC Milan and scored his second goal just after half time to dump AC Milan out of the Champions League. Man United 4 – 0 defeat of AC Milan spoiled David Beckham’s return to Old Trafford.
